What is a blog?

I was told that blog is a blend of the words web and log.  I prefer webl.  Welcome to my webl.

For my first post I present this en grisaille oil painting by Howard Pyle.  Tonal illustrations of this era were a necessity for printing purposes, and as a result many illustrators of the time were masters of tone.  With the transition to color printing, these same artists were able to apply this knowledge in creating tonally sound color illustrations.
